The Batesburg-Leesville Racquet Community (BLRC) was started in the Spring of 2023 to provide tennis and pickleball programs for kids and adults in the area. The popularity of the programs has led to significant growth and participation. Over 300 lessons have been provided in the first 6 months alone. The BLRC programs are open to anyone between the ages of 6 and 60+. Kids receive special attention to encourage them in their schoolwork and positive character traits. A recent example involved decorating old tennis balls for seniors to use on the legs of their walkers and the Senior Center to use on the legs of their folding chairs and tables. The decorating was accompanied by a discussion of the meaning and importance of community service. This was a big hit with the kids and the seniors.
